X-Men Apocalypse Trailer Hurts Hindu Sentiments, Gets Fans Excited!

The fans were getting impatient to catch a glimpse of what’s in store for them in X-Men Apocalypse and they surely had a treat when 20th Century FOX released the first official trailer. The trailer has excited the fans for sure, but it has also raised some controversies.

The fans got to see the blue colored villain, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) in the first trailer. The Hindu community has taken offense about the fact that the titular villain for X-Men Apocalypse is heard saying that he has been called a lot of things in his lifetime, Krishna, Ra, Yahweh.

The premise holds that these super humans who were once considered god by the humans for centuries are the very first traces of mutants.

Times has reported that Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism has responded to the trailer of X-Men Apocalypse saying that Lord Krishna is considered holy to the Hindu community and he has been wrongly portrayed as a villain out to control the planet in the upcoming Hollywood film.

Zed has gone on to say that Lord Krishna is meant to be worshipped and not be fought against, especially as the super villain in the film. Rajan Zed said that he spoke on behalf of the whole Hindu community when he says that it was wrong to portray a religious figure in such a light.

There is a lot of pressure on Bryan Singer to remove any reference to Krishna in X-Men Apocalypse. The reference can be kept only if it directly related to facts that are stated in the Hindu Holy Scripture the Gita.

Zed said that such wrong references goes ahead to create a wrong image of Krishna in the minds of non-Hindus. They will develop a very wrong notion about Hinduism based on this reference.

According to Independent, Zed has criticized the inappropriate reference to Hindu deities in commercial projects and said that the character of Apocalypse mouthing those words in X-Men Apocalypse is another wrong use of Hindu culture in Hollywood. He suggested that the Hollywood executives should take a course on religious and cultural sensitivity in order to understand how their references will affect the audience worldwide when they make such references without any knowledge.
