Windows 10 Mobile Launched by Microsoft, A Number of Handsets Eligible to Receive the Update Listed by The Software Giant!

Windows 10 Mobile is a mobile operating system that has been developed by Microsoft. It is the successor to the existent Windows 8.1 which can be found on most Windows phones that are currently available in the market.

Windows 10 for PC was rolled out by Microsoft back in July 29, 2015. Microsoft has been meaning to launch the same for mobile phones for quite some time now but due to one reason or the other the releases date of Windows 10 for mobile has been delayed in the past.

However, fans of Windows mobile need not fret as Microsoft has finally started rolling out the Windows 10 OS for mobile phones. Apparently, the latest OS was being tested on a number of handsets in the past by the software giant which includes the likes of the Lumia lineup from its own house.

The Windows 10 OS will currently be supported on the following devices- Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1 GB RAM variant), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930.

An upgrade advisor app has also been created by Microsoft that enables users to know whether their mobile is ready for the latest OS. The app is downloadable from the Windows Store.

It should be noted that though Microsoft has already launched the OS upgrade for the above mentioned devices, the actual availability of the update will depend on the carriers of the mobile phones.

The latest reports suggest that Outlook and Office will get a major overhaul after the upgrade. Users will be able to align the Cortana to its desktop counterpart after the update is applied.

It was reported that some of the devices on which the latest OS was tested in the past will not receive the actual update. These devices were included in the Windows Insider Program that was held by Microsoft.

Reports state that the HTC One M8 and the Lumia 920 are two such phones which did receive a beta version of the update in the past. However, Microsoft has not included these handsets in the list of mobile phones that are currently eligible to receive the update. However, there might be a chance that Microsoft rolls out the update at a later point of time for these devices.

Some other devices other than the Lumia range that are currently eligible to receive the update are- MCJ Madosma Q501,BLU Win HD w510u and BLU Win HD LTE x150q. it should also be noted that a number of devices come with Windows 10 mobile OS out of the box- These are- Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL, Xiaomi Mi4, Lumia 550, Lumia 650, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950.

Apparently, the OS update for the existing devices in the market was initially planned to be released back in December. However, due to some reasons, Microsoft had to delay its launch and it is finally being rolled out at the current moment.

If a device is ready to be upgraded to the latest Windows OS, Microsoft advises users to follow the following steps to ensure proper upgradation of the device-

  • Firstly, it is a lengthy process and thus users should plug in their devices to a charger which will make sure that it does not runs out of juice while upgrading.
  • The upgrade package comes with a significant size and thus a Wi-Fi network should be used to download it.
  • All the data, apps, settings and text messages on the device should be backed up on cloud before upgrading. To do so users will have to head over to the Settings icon and then select Backup from the following menu. Instructions for the process will follow automatically.
