Ayer has been a huge fan of the Joker ever since his childhood and he owed it to himself to chalk out the character of the Joker beautifully and looks like he has nailed it with Jared Leto.
Jared Leto was roped in to play the role of the Joker back in 2014 and there were some critics who felt that the actor didn’t have what it takes to play the role of a villain who has been immortalized on screen by actor like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger.
Jared Leto was super excited to play the role of the Joker in Suicide Squad. He informed Billboard that he was very excited to take the challenge to portray this very complex character and said that he felt that the character was a beautiful disaster since it had so many layers. This was a challenge that he has never undertaken and he was ready to face it head on.
Ever since the filming for Suicide Squad has started there has been a buzz about how amazing Jared Leto has been. Ayer has gone on record to shower praises on him saying that the world on the set would stop when Jared Leto went on to start performing. The crew would stop their work and just watch him since he was fascinating as the Joker.
CBS News reported that Jared Leto wouldn’t come out of the character of the Joker even in between the shots. There are some well-known actors like Will Smith who are also a part of Suicide Squad and Smith himself has come out to state that he has never met Jared Leto on the sets for the duration of the six months when they were filming. This goes on show how committed the actor was to the role.
Jared Leto is no doubt a method actor, but the psychological impact of the role of Joker was so great that Jared Leto couldn’t switch off and on between the character and his off screen life since while shooting for Suicide Squad. He had been so into the role that he would interact with the different members of the cast in the same way as the Joker would.
Viola Davis who plays the role of Amanda Walker in Suicide Squad has informed Mirror that Jared Leto had greeted the members of the cast by sending his henchman to drop a dead pig in the center of the table where the cast members had gathered for the rehearsal for Suicide Squad. This was not all, Jared Leto has also sent a live rat to his Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie and she had screamed when she opened the box to discover the tiny rat.
There are rumors that the role of Joker is going to be carried beyond Suicide Squad by DC Comic. They have realized that it is their big ticket to success and will be using the character frequently in the upcoming films from the franchise.
Jack Snyder had plans to incorporate the role of the Joker in Batman V Superman, but then he realized that he shouldn’t include a lot of things in a single film since that will mess things up. He had to develop the tension between Batman and Superman and decided to leave the Joker to focus on that.
