There is a lot of extra competition in the market and with the availability of new and improved devices; Roku will have to work hard in order to hold its ground. Market analysts have indicated that Roku needs to revise its price since even though it is expected to come with new improvements. If the price is not attractive, people could find it difficult to purchase such a device.
Meanwhile, we are wondering if users of older Roku devices will actually be okay with the recent decision to stop introducing updates for the old devices in the Roku line-up. The streaming technology has evolved and along with the Roku streaming players as well.
However, what happens next, needs to be seen. In the meantime, Roku is also offering its older devices with a limited-time offer and discount of 20% off retail prices for present Roku 1, 2 or 3 models and they are currently listed at $49.99, $55.99 and $79.99, respectively.
Meanwhile, Apple is planning to sell their updated media streaming device for a price in the $149 to $199 range. This is actually a significant increase in the price over their last Apple TV model. The current Apple TV model is priced at $69 but enjoyed a price tag of $99 for most of its life.
