Recent reports indicate that Roy, Ryu, and Lucas were not a result of polling from fans. Sakurai confirmed that they were already in development before the vote was even conducted. It means that Nintendo hasn’t taken our voted character choices into account.
Right now, it seems like third-party characters are finally a feature in Super Smash Bros 4 and eventually we might even get to see Rayman.
Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Nintendo will add more characters as a ‘fanservice’ by making use of the ballot where players are allowed to vote for a specific character. This further implies that many non-Nintendo characters will also be added.
