Married at First Sight Season 3: What the Participants are Doing Now, Spin-off, Domestic Abuse Allegations

We know that FYI and A&E’s ‘Married at First Sight’ is slightly different from your average dose of matchmaking shows from the title alone. The prospective bride and groom meet for the first time at the altar, and there are experts involved to make the coupling a success.

But can such social experiments be successful? The only couple to be going strong seems to be Jamie Otis-Hehner and Doug Hehner from Season 1 Episode 1 (their July 5th announcement of expecting a baby was sadly soon followed by the news that Jamie had suffered a miscarriage).

As far as success goes, Season 3 seems to fare slightly better than Season 2, where Jessica Castro from Episode 3 filed a restraining order against Ryan DeNino. Going by Instagram, the bromance among the men from Season 3- Tres Russell, David Norton and Neil Bowlus seems to be blooming, with them attending events, celebrating birthdays, and bar hopping together.

As for equations with their could-have-been-better halves, judging by social media posts, it seems the only ones making something out of it are Samantha Role and Neil Bowlus. Given they were the fans’ favorite couple from the third season, it was disappointing when Neil asked for a divorce.

They often meet, though. Sam, who is now a Manager of Client Services for ADP from being a branch manager for Sun Trust, has referred to Neil, a Compliance Specialist at Qual Tex Laboratories, as a ‘cool dude’ and they have shared posts celebrating birthdays together, in one of which Neil seems to be wearing a ring.

The only couple to stay married in this season, Vanessa Nelson and Tres Russell, didn’t seem to be that close towards each other, and they post their split soon after the show wrapped up. However not all is lost: they are soaring on the professional front.

Tres is apparently having a gala time, selling luxury cars and partying hard. While he credits the show and Vanessa for having changed him as a man for the better, he may not be in any hurry to settle down.

As for Vanessa, who was visibly shaken up by the divorce, she seems to have finally got over it. Last month, it was announced that she was to star with fellow participant David Norton in the spin-off ‘Married at First Sight: Second Chances,’ where they would be looking for partners from a pool of interested candidates.

Married at First Sight: Second Chances’ is to premiere sometime in 2017, and is currently in the process of screening candidates. There would be no marriages on the show, though, as reported by Starcasm. In the meantime, Vanessa has founded She-Spark.com, a community site for women to discuss food, career, and health.

The least successful couple on the show, Ashley Doherty and David Norton, seem to have gone their separate ways after Ashley filed for divorce, citing the intrusion of the media into their private lives. This apparently left David feeling betrayed and frustrated at her cold-heartedness.

Today, while David makes occasional public appearances, as mentioned before, Ashley is almost unheard of. Most of her social media accounts are set to private mode and she is seldom active on Twitter, where the only members from the show that she follows are Jaclyn and Jessica from season 2.

This is not surprising, with the 30 year old nursing student, who already is a Bachelor in Psychology as well as a Master of Social Work, being the brunt of a lot of hatred and even receiving death threats on social media over her apparent ill-treatment of ‘nice-guy’ David.

  1. You forgot to mention Cortney and Jason from Season 1 as a successful couple from this show. You had a photo of them, but no mention.
