David Ayer has always been a Batman fan and hence he owed it on himself to make Joker’s portrayal authentic. Joker is a very difficult character to portray and with characters like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger who have immortalized the character without him, Jared Leto had a huge task on his shoulders. The physical appearance of Joker is very different from the way Jared Leto looks.
Jared Leto is known for getting into the skin of the character and he did the same for his portrayal of the Joker. He shaved his hair off and got himself tattooed apart from behaving like him. While the trademark look of Joker has been kept intact in Suicide Squad, there are some changes that have been made where Leto got tattoos and blinged out his teeth.
Suicide Squad will see Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship. It will trace how the two of them meet and how Joker makes Harley Quinn go mad. The film will also see Batman chasing Joker and Harley Quinn. This makes fans hopeful that they will get to see Joker and Batman’s encounter.
Margot Robbie who plays the role of Harley Quinn even ended up receiving a pet rat from Jared Leto. David Ayer revealed that Jared Leto embraced his character to such an extent that everyone at the sets was freaked out by his antics in between shots.
Jared Leto is known for his eccentricities and he refused to let go off his character even after the cameras were turned off. Given the manner in which Jared Leto was behaving around in the sets, people decided to maintain distance from him.
The trailer for Suicide Squad, which was released at the San Diego Comic-Con didn’t feature the Joker with the other villains in the film. He was depicted as a separate entity on his own and this is exactly how he has been placed even on the official poster.
