Justin Bieber, Diplo and Skrillex’s collaboration What Are U Now won the award for the best collaboration of the year. Although Skrillex did not allude to the Paris attacks directly when he came on stage to take the award, he did mention the negative energy that is circulating in the world and how the artists should try to infuse positivity into the world.
Even though Jared Leto and the other artists at the American Music Award alluded to Paris, the real winner at the AMA this year was Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift ruled the charts with three awards, including the song of the year as well as the award for the album of the year.
Other award winners on the special night included Anna Kendrick, One Direction, Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd to mention a few. The boys from One Direction picked the best artist of the year award and they also startled the fans with the announcement that they will be on a hiatus for some time. The boys said that they will be taking a break from music and will be focusing on their families.
The show was hosted by singer and actress Jennifer Lopez and she opened the award show with a performance where she danced on the best hits of the year including Bad blood and Hotline Bling.
