HTC One M8 Eye Arrives in Malaysia, Android Marshmallow Update for One M8 Gets Certified By Bluetooth SIG, And More

HTC is quite busy with both hardware and software during this fall with the Android 6.0 update race already going strong. Till now, the only HTC device that has been guaranteed to receive the Marshmallow update is the Nexus 9, the updates of which aren’t controlled by HTC.

Meanwhile, HTC One A9 has released with the Marshmallow OS and it has been promised that One M9 will be receiving the update soon enough.

With all these talk of updates, last-year users of One M8 are presently feeling left out. However, according to Bluetooth’s approval, the update should be coming soon for HTC One M8 devices. A Bluetooth certification is not really much of a confirmation but this means that the update is coming faster than ever.

The update was submitted on 22nd of September and certification was achieved on 28th of October. Earlier, it was confirmed by HTC that they will be releasing the latest version of Android for all the One-branded handsets along with a few in the Desire line as well.

However, the good news remains that the update was recently confirmed by Bluetooth SIG, which actually means that Wi-Fi Alliance needs to certify it.

Marshmallow will come with certain updated features that are sure to help out the aging HTC One M8 and as a result, people are really looking forward to it. Ever since its release, people have been pretty worried about the battery life in HTC One M8.

With the Doze capabilities of Marshmallow, the device can go into deep sleep mode in order to save battery power. Meanwhile, another aspect of Marshmallow is that many users have been waiting for the granular permission system.

With this feature, users will not have to grant all the permissions of an app during install. Instead, your device will ask you to allow use of a specific part of your device with the features of the app that demand it. The growth of Marshmallow updates will increase considerably in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the HTC One M8 Eye is a new midrange device from HTC and the new specifications are quite interesting with the primary focus being the camera. The 13MP Duo camera in the HTC One M8 Eye comes with LED Flash and Depth sensor with a front-facing camera sporting 5MP wide-angle lens.

Under the hood, it runs a Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz quad-core CPU with HTC Sense 6 UI 4G and Android 5.0 Lollipop. The intelligent LED Dual Flash has the intelligent ability of automatically selecting exact color tones and light intensity needed for more professional shots.

The device further features voice-activated selfies, image beautifying features, and 1080p video recording. The device has finally arrived in Malaysia with a price tag of RM1399.

In the meantime, Android Marshmallow 6.0 has already been rolled out for most Nexus devices and furthermore, the new operating system will be released to other Android smartphones in the near future. The One M8 Google Play Edition will most likely receive the software update within October.

After the launch of Android Marshmallow 6.0, HTC released a list of smartphones that would receive the new update. They are the HTC One M9, HTC One M8, HTC One M9+ and HTC One E9+.Sadly, the company did not confirm as to when these devices will be receiving the update.

However, it was confirmed that HTC One M8 and M9 will be receiving the update by the end of this year. The VP of Product Management at HTC, Mo Versi, recently tweeted that according to plans, the company will roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the HTC One M8 GPE by the end of this month.
