The GoPro Hero 4 action camera was released back in 2014 and latest reports suggest that GoPro is planning to roll out its successor, the GoPro Hero 5 within the ongoing year. Rumors regarding the GoPro Hero 5 have been building up for quite some time. It is one of the most anticipated gadgets of the current year.
A number of reports are pointing towards an October release for the upcoming action-cam. Nick Woodman, the CEO of GoPro has already given confirmation to the fact that the camera will indeed be released within 2016.
It was previously reported that the Hero 5 will be released within the first half of 2016. However, the developers apparently changed plans and decided to wait for the launch of another gadget from the company- the Karma Drone, before releasing the camera.
As for the technical aspects of the device, it will reportedly be 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter compared to its predecessor. A smaller and lighter camera will ensure even more portability. It will also become easier to attach the device to helmets and other head gears.
At the same time, it was also reported that it will be quite advanced and will be packed with features. In that case the developers might face some difficulty in reducing the size and weight of the device, especially when it will be loaded with features.
The camera will be able to record 8K quality video which will be a significant improvement over its predecessor’s 4K quality recordings. Various reports claim that a dual lens camera will be used in the device. a dual lens setup will work towards improving the overall quality of both photos and videos.
The 8K videos will reportedly be recorded at 30 frames per second and it will also be capable of recording 1080p videos at a whopping 240 frames per second.
The device will be waterproof and it will be fully functional underwater up to a depth of 60 meters. It should be mentioned here that the Hero 4 was waterproof up to a depth of 20 meters. So the Hero 5 will be getting a major overhaul in this department. Making the device functional up to a depth of 60 meters underwater is definitely not a matter of joke.
The device will be packing an Ambrella H1 System which is quite advanced. It will enable the camera to record videos at 4K resolution at a constant frame rate of 60 frames per second. It will also feature a better battery compared to the previous Hero models.
Reports suggest that it will run on a 2,800mAH battery. Considering the fact that the Hero 4 came with a 1,160mAH battery, the 2,800mAH one on the Hero 5 will keep the device up and running for a much longer period of time.
Hero cameras are generally known to feature Ambrella products under their hoods. However, some rumors suggest that the Hero 5 might be loaded with a processor from the Snapdragon lineup of Qualcomm.
An A10 chip is also on the cards as far as the SOC of the device is concerned. The latest version of Bluetooth will be fitted into it which will enable users to easily share its contents.
Users of Hero line of cameras have long complained that they find wit quite difficult to unload the photos and videos from the device and also edit them. It is for this very reason that the developers will be releasing a special app which will help users to easily offload contents from the device. It will be a desktop management app and in some previous reports it was stated that the software will be rolled out in March. However, that remained from happening.
