It’s been a wait of over two years for Sherlock Season 4. The winter special, The Abominable Bride did help the fans of the BBC series, but then it only made the fans itch more for the fourth season.
BBC has been very hush hush about the release of Sherlock Season 4, but Martin Freeman, who plays the role of Watson in the popular series has revealed that fans might have to wait for the upcoming season.
Freeman had appeared at The Graham Norton Show recently and he let out that the fans will have to wait till the end of 2016 for the release of Sherlock Season 4. The production on the fourth season has started and it is likely that the three-episode season will be out around Christmas.
This has excited the fans since the new seasons of Sherlock are always released on or right after New Year’s Day. Even Paula Kerger, the head of PBS has said that the release date for the next season of Sherlock hasn’t been announced and it is likely to happen around January, 2017.
The first season of Sherlock had released around summer, but then the next two seasons were released right around New Year’s and it is likely that the same schedule is going to be followed since even The Abominable Bride was release during the same time.
The main reason for the delay of Sherlock Season 4 has been the busy schedule of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. The actors have joined the big league in Hollywood and have a lot of commitments that they have to meet.
Both Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch have joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Cumberbatch has been roped in to play the role of Dr. Strange, Freeman can be seen in Captain America: Civil War, in a role that will see him in other films in the MCU.
While fans wait for the official news on when Sherlock Season 4 returns, they will be happy to note that Christian Post has reported that Watson and Mary (Amanda Abbington) might have a baby in the fourth season. Watson, Mary and Sherlock were seen walking down Borough Market while straddling a carrier during the shoot.
The Daily Mail reported that with the doctor and his wife having a baby girl, there are going to be exciting developments in their relationship with Sherlock. He has still not quite gotten used to the fact that Watson has moved out of 22B Baker Street and is married to Mary, and now he will have to deal with the fact that there is going to be a baby around.
Sherlock Season 4 is believed to be based on The Adventure of Silver Blaze, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which will be given an interesting modern touch by the writers of the BBC series.
The story revolves around a missing race horse that is closely related to the death of the trainer, John Straker.
Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss revealed that Sherlock Season 4 will be a treat for the fans. It is going to bring back adventures, romance and terrors from the past. The upcoming season is likely to bring Moriarty back and this has excited the fans a lot. There are reports claiming that the first episode of Season 4 will deal with the story that they have been telling since the first season.
