Alien: Covenant is an upcoming American science fiction film that has been written by Jack Paglen and Michael Green. The movie is being directed by Ridley Scott. Previous reports regarding the movie suggested that its cast and crew were seen heading into New Zealand’s Fiordland Park for filming.
Some photos of the set were also released and it was seen that some kind of spaceship was being built which would be used in the movie. There is a chance that this spaceship is the Covenant itself. The pictures had the Mitre Peak of South New Zealand in the background.
Confirmation has also been received that some portions of the movie will be shot in the Te Anau-Milford region which is located in South New Zealand.
It was also confirmed by a company spokesperson that several trucks were also seen in the Fordland region. These trucks will be used for the purpose of carrying the camera equipment, makeup, wardrobe, etc.
Just in the recent past, the first official photo of the film was posted online. The photo featured the arm of a man. On the sleeve of the outfit that the person is wearing, a patch can be seen which is sewn on to it.
The word Covenant is written on the arm patch and the logo looks like that of the arc of Covenant. Also seen on the arm patch are the words- Weyland-Yutani. The company Weyland has made a previous appearance in the first film of the series- Prometheus.
However, it merged with Yutani and the Weyland-Yutani company was shown in the movie Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. Apparently, this company will be responsible for providing finance and supporting the entire mission. The crew who will board the Covenant will be looked after by this company and they will be working for it.
20th Century Fox recently provided some insights regarding the storyline of the upcoming movie. The company stated- “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus – and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction.”
It was also stated that the crew of the Covenant will head out for a planet that is located on the far side of the galaxy. It is during this journey that they will come across a place which they initially think of a paradise which has never been visited before.
However, in reality, this place is anything but a paradise. It is actually a dark and dangerous world. The world is inhabited by only one being- Michael Fassbender’s Android David from Prometheus. He was left behind on the isolated world when the Prometheus expedition went haywire. The crew of the Covenant will stumble upon David upon reaching this dark place.
It was seen in Prometheus that Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace also survives. However, no mention of the character was made in the statement that was released by 20th Century Fox.
Crossmap reports that Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will have limited screen-time in Alien: Covenant or Prometheus 2. Janty Yates, the costume designer for “The Martian”, who is working with director Ridley Scott in Alien: Covenant, was recently interviewed, during which he was asked to shed some light on the upcoming movie.
Yates claimed that the setting of the upcoming movie will be a decade after Prometheus. Alien: Covenant will reportedly be set in 2103. Reports are also coming in which claim that Noomi Rapace won’t be reprising her role of Dr. Elizabeth Shaw for the upcoming movie. Apparent, the character will not be making an appearance in Alien: Covenant.
Fans have been speculating that Elizabeth Shaw might have been killed by David. There is also the possibility that the duo parted ways and went in different directions.
